The best laid plans

When I woke up on Monday morning, I had exciting plans for the day. It went something like this:

Breakfast, get everybody ready for the day. Send Andrew off to paint a little shed at his sister Anna's. Take Keagan to preschool then come home and start making curtains for the nursery. Pick up Keagan from Preschool. Andrew gets home. Have lunch and then Andrew and I were going to finish the curtains and make the diaper stacker for the nursery while the boys napped.

I was pretty excited about having a lot of time to work on my projects. Unfortunately, this is not what happened. The day started out as I had planned but it all changed soon after breakfast. We were all upstairs getting the boys dressed upstairs. I took Deker to the bathroom to do his hair. This is when it all went wayward from there.

When Deker stepped down off the stool, he fell and hit his chin on the little brown stool. When I picked him up, I noticed that the bottom of his chin was bleeding. I grabbed a couple of kleenex and then told Andrew to get me a wet washcloth. After we got Deker calmed down a little bit, Andrew looked at the cut. It was about an 1 - 1 1/2 inches wide and it looked pretty deep. So, Andrew (notice that I am not the one looking that closely at it) decided that we better get it looked at because he might be stitches.

I then start by calling our family doctor to see if they would be able to see him or if we should take him to the ER or a minor emergency place. Thank goodness our Doctors office told us to go ahead and bring him in and they will squeeze him in. So we dropped Keagan off at Preschool early (he is in a co-op preschool where all the mom's take turns teaching) and we headed down to our doctors office.

By the time we left the house, the cut had pretty much stopped bleeding and when the doctor looked at it, he decided that he would put some sterry strips on it with a little glue to hold them in place. He figured this would be much less painful and traumatic than giving him stitches (I was much relieved because I was not looking forward to Andrew and I having to hold him down). So, the doctor put the sterry strips on with a bandaid over it to protect it and sent us on our way.

The next morning when I got Deker up, the bandaid and the sterry strips had already come off. Thank goodness the cut hadn't opened back up. So I made another call to our doctors office and they said to keep it covered with a bandaid and we could even put some small bandaids over it like they did the sterry strips and then another one over that. So I put a bandaid on and then Tuesday night, Andrew put some tape and and bandiad on again. I was very relieved to see the bandaid and the tape we made into sterry strips still on his chin this morning. Now hopefully it will all stay on until Andrew gets home tomorrow afternoon.

Monday night I tried to get a picture of the big bandaid on Deker's chin. Here are two pictures I got. Keagan also wanted his picture taken and it was a pretty cute one, so I thought I would put that picture on as well.

Big and Small Projects

With this new little baby boy on the way, there are quite a few sewing projects that I want to do. Here are two that I have completed and another one that I have in the works.

First up was a cover for our baby bjorn. When Deker was just about grown out of this, I saw a lady who had a really cute cover for her carrier so I decided that I could probably make one of those. So...I did it. I think it turned out pretty cute and now I can't wait to use it.
Next up, I have a nursing cover that a friend of mine made me when Deker was born, but I decided that I wanted another one. I used this tutorial that I found online and made another nursing cover for me. I am pretty pleased with how it turned out.
Now for the really big project. Finding out I was pregnant was a huge surprise to me, so I decided that to make this baby more exciting for me, I wanted to redo the nursery. Then when I found that this little one was going to be a boy, it was something I wanted to do even more. Then I found some amazing women online that made their own crib bedding sets and I decided that I would attempt to make my own as well.
So a few weeks ago, with the help of my friends Elizabeth and Angela, we went shopping for fabric. This is what we came home with.
This is the inspiration for the new nursery.

I can't wait to get started on this and see how it all turns out. I will post pictures when it is all complete.

Updates

Time sure does fly by. There have been a couple of things I have wanted to post about, but have never gotten around to getting it done. I will try to keep this as short as possible.

Wednesday Night Fun
On Wednesday morning, Andrew gets up really early in the morning (around 3:00-ish) and drives over to Eastern Idaho. He stays the night there on Wednesday night and then Thursday morning he finishes his last few deliveries and then drives home and gets home Thursday afternoon/early evening.

Because of this, Wednesday nights are kind of lonely for the boys and I. About a month ago, my wonderful Visiting Teachers gave me some good ideas to make the night fun and easier of all of us. So, Wednesday nights have become our picnic dinner while we watch a movie night. We always have a way easy dinner (grilled cheese, omelets, "hot dog & noodles", etc). We spread an old blanket on the ground and watch a movie while eating dinner. Then after we talk to daddy on the phone, we usually have a yummy treat. We have all been enjoying our new tradition. Here is a picture I took a few weeks ago.
Valentine's Day
We had a nice low-key Valentines Day. The boys woke up to this fun table. In their bags was a couple little treats, a cup w/a straw and a little plastic watch (Keagan had been talking about wanting a watch for quite a while). We had strawberry milk, OJ, and bread with egg in the middle (I'm sorry, but I don't really know what it is called) except the hole was cut into the shape of a heart.

For Dinner we had mini meatloafs shaped into hearts, potatoes, etc. Andrew surprised me by taking some flowers that he had gotten me a few weeks ago, saved and dried them and spread them on the tablecloth. I looked really pretty and nice, I just wish I would have remembered to take a picture.

The McCall Winter Carnival.....Almost

Our computer is fixed, all thanks to our friend Kelson. Him and his family came over on Sunday and he was able to get is all working for us.

Now, about the subject of this post. Every year at the end of January/beginning of February McCall (a small town up in the mountains north of Boise) hosts their annual Winter Carnival. Andrew and I have been a couple of times, but we haven't been for 3 years. Well, this year we decided we were definitely going to be going. So on Saturday morning we had breakfast at home, packed a lunch, put all of our coats, hats, mittens, boots, etc. in the van and headed up the mountain prepared for a fun day of seeing fun snow & ice sculptures.

It is about a 2 hour drive up the mountain. After a little while, I put in a Thomas & Friends DVD for Keagan to watch and Deker ended up falling asleep (which is really unusual for him). About an hour or so into our drive, I hear some funny noises from Keagan I ask him if he is OK and he tells me yes. A couple of minutes later, I hear it again look back at him and he has a little bit of vomit in his hand. I tell Andrew to pull over, Andrew gets out, cleans him up (thank goodness is just a little bit). While we were stopped, Deker woke up which is not a big deal.

We get back on the road. I turn off the cartoons and tell Keagan he needs to look out at the road because I think he is getting car sick. Fast forward to about 15 minutes later (we are now about 30 minutes away from our destination), and I hear some more funny noises from the back. Ask Keagan if he is OK, he tells me yes. Then I hear that awful noise of somebody throwing up, I say to Andrew "Keagan threw up again", he looks at Keagan (he can see him better) and Andrew says "No he didn't". So I look back and my eyes come upon Deker with vomit all over him, then I hear the noise again, Look at Keagan and he has vomit all over him. I tell/yell and Andrew to pull over NOW. Again, thank goodness we were right at a turn off. I get out of the van, try to help and immediately have to walk a good 5-10 feet AWAY from the Van and tell Andrew, "I am so sorry, but I can't help you right now."

So, poor Andrew has two boys who have vomit all over them and their blankets (aka their security) and a pregnant wife who can't handle the smell and is as far away as possible. While Andrew is getting the boys and their car seats cleaned up as best as possible with a few dozen wipes, I made two attempts to help him, both times I get kind of close and immediately have to back away again. Because this was a day trip, I didn't think about bringing any extra clothes for the boys. I found a pair of pants back from when we potty trained Keagan that Deker could wear and and pair of Andrew's old pajama pants that we put on Keagan just so he didn't have to sit in his underwear the entire way home.

After they are as cleaned up as we can get them, Andrew put them in their car seats with no shirts and makeshift pants and clean blankets which we happened to have in the back. Thank goodness I had some plastic grocery sacks in the back which I was supposed to recycle at the store which Andrew was able to put all their clothes and blankets in.

So, with about 30 minutes left until we get to our destination, we have to turn around and head back home because we had no extra clothes for the boys. We were worried about the boys throwing up again on the way home, but thank goodness both boys immediately fell asleep and didn't wake up until we were done with all the windy roads.

We get home, eat the lunch we had intended to eat in McCall, put the boys in the tub and then figure out another way to make this day fun. We figure for some reason, the boys got car sick (which they have never done before) because they were just fine the rest of the day.

Unfortuately for us, instead of seeing This....We got to head back home with boys who looked like this...
Then that evening, Andrew had the fun job of taking off the car seat covers, opening the bags of clothes, rinsing everything out and getting it all in the washer. Because once again, his pregnant wife still couldn't handle any of the smell.

It's a Boy!

On Monday, I had my 2nd Ultrasound. We were finally able to confirm that this little baby is a boy. It is weird to think that I am soon going to have 3 boys. The two I have right now have so much energy, I hope I will be able to keep up with all of them.

I don't have any pictures to post at the moment, because our computer decided to stop working on Monday. (I am at the library while Keagan is at preschool this morning.) I think we have a virus or something. But a friend of ours who knows all about computers said that he would come look at it sometime this week. Hopefully he can fix it and we will be back up and running soon.

Close Call!

I have one particular blessing that I have been counting lately. That is the blessing of having two boys and not yet having to take a trip to the ER with them. There have been some close calls, but luckly (Knock on wood) nothing too bad. Last evening was one of those times. Andrew and I were just starting dinner and Keagan and Deker were playing in the living room and down the hallway. There was lots of laughter coming from them, then all of a sudden we hear Deker start screaming/crying.

Andrew went to get him and when he first picked him up, didn't see anything, then a minute later when Deker finally let us look, we see a HUGE bump forming on his forehead just above his nose and right eye with a scratch in it. Luckily it wasn't bleeding or anything. Then as the evening wore on, we noticed that he also scratched the lower part of his nose and his upper lip.

Today, the swelling on his forehead is really down and it is starting to bruise a little and his lip is only slightly swollen, but you can really see the scratch lines down his head. Above is a picture of how he looks this afternoon. To me, it looks pretty painful, but he is playing like nothing happened.

Unfortunately, we have no idea what happened. They were playing down the hallway and we are assuming Deker fell and hit is head on something in his room, we are thinking maybe the corner of his dresser, but we really don't know. All I do know, is that this wasn't the first time either of them have been hurt and it definately won't be the last.

Is it a Boy or a Girl?

Today (Tuesday) was my 20 week ultrasound. I was really excited to see this little person and find out if it was a boy or a girl. Unfortunately, this baby didn't want to cooperate very well. The bad news is that we aren't 100% sure if it is a boy or a girl. The Ultrasound Tech is only about 68% sure she thinks it's a

BOY

The good news is that the baby didn't cooperate enough that she didn't get to see and measure everything that she needs to, so in 4 weeks we get to have another Ultrasound and confirm that this little one is a Boy.

So, unfortunately I can't really start buying and making things for another month. But at least we know that with the things they were able to see and measure, everything looks good and healthy.
